Snow in Alabama

Yes by the title you read it right, it snowed in Alabama. February 12, 2010 in Enterprise, Alabama was a day to always remember. There was rumors of 1 up to 4 inches of snow the day before and I was not falling for it. They have said that in the past, but with all this crazy weather happening lately everywhere else, why not here right. Well, everything was cancelled, I mean everything, for a measly 3 inches. I guess if you aren't use to snow, 3 inches is a huge amount of snow. All the schools were closed and even some roads. Well as predicted it started snowing at 7:00 in the morning until about 4:30pm . I have never seen my kids get dress so fast in my life. Usually it a chore, not today. We when out as fast as we could to play in the white stuff not knowing how long it would last. I dressed them in three layers of pants, Kate had rain boots to wear, Caleb just his tennis shoes, and their winter coats (which have been used maybe 3 time before this time, crazy how warm it is down here) and I did what I remembered doing as a kid sometimes when my mittens where still wet, I resorted to socks. I ended up putting about three pair of socks on each kid. Now we were ready to go, I'm so glad I don't have to do the whole getting snow gear on all the time, it's exhausting. The kids where having so much fun, hey I was having way too much fun too. This was Caleb's and our dogs first time playing in snow. Caleb was only 7 months last year when he saw it in Utah. This was his first time playing in it. He was so excited he kept walking around looking down at his feet babbling like Charlie Brown. He loved it until Kate decided to try and throw a dinner plate size snow ball at me and missed and hit her brother right in the face. Nice initiation eh to the world of snowm eh. Caleb got over it quickly and began to play again. Sadie our dog didn't want to even touch it at first, then she started running all over with what we call the "zoom -zooms". Sadie rolled around in it and chased snowballs all day, it was funny after we threw the snowball she couldn't quite find the ball after she chased it, to funny. Kate was ecstatic, she said Mommy, Mommy it's snowing like at my Grandma's houses. I was so happy for her, she asked me last year when we left Utah if it would snow where we lived I said probably not, well she got her wish one year later. I believe anything is possible now. We have lived here for 6 years and I have never seen snow like this. Kate and I made a little snow man in the backyard with the first little bit of snow fall, I helped her make a little one thinking that was as big as we could probably make with the snow we were going to get. I was wrong, it snowed a ton more. After we came inside for a break we had Hot Chocolate and waited for the Clothes to dry in the dryer to go out again. Jerry then help build a large, I mean huge snow man in the front yard, it put my little snowman I made with Kate to shame. How was I supposed to know we would get way more snow. Kate and Caleb loved helping roll the snowballs for the snowman. We ended up deciding to make a whole snowman family one for each member in our family. We had all our neighbors come out and they all wanted to take a picture with our snowman. Each would tell us how long they lived here and that they have never seen this much snow and this much snow that actually stuck to the ground. We live by quiet a few of elderly people. So you know that this was something really unique. They would say they lived here over 30 years and have never seen this before. We even had several people drive by and take pictures of our creation, even the Postman, it was so neat to talk and meet more of my neighbors. I had a blast. It was that perfect fluffy flakes that are so big you can catch them on your tongue. It's the kind of snow you love to just take a walk in. I sure do miss the snow. I know all you cold weather state people want to strangle me right now. We spent the whole day from sun up to sun down playing in the snow. It was so fun to share this experience with my kids. My southern babies just don't ever get a chance to really see and play in snow so this made for great, free, fun entertainment for the day. It was really great family time as well, all working together to build each other snowman, it was great. I thought I was going to miss seeing snow this season for the first time in my life because we didn't go to Utah for our normal Christmas visit, but I was wrong it amazingly enough came to us. What a day to remember, snow in Alabama! The weather man reported up getting 5-6 inches of snow, so even more than predicted. Words can seem to express the joy and fun we had as family yesterday. A day of firsts for many, first time seeing snow in Alabama, a first time for Caleb and Sadie to play in snow, and Kate making her first official snowman. What a day, to much fun for words and somewhat unbelievable that it actually happen.

Srabble Letters

So I had a little fun with the scrabble game the other day, but everyone keeps giving grief about me not having a K by my name in the top picture. For all you scrabble players out there, you know that there is only one K tile for the whole game. If you look closely I did use a blank space to replace the missing K. Just a note to clear things up

A favorite Quote

"It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It will all work out. If you do your best, it will all work out. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us...If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He wil hear our prayers."

Jane's 2 month Check-Up

Jane had her 2 month check-up today. Jane did really well considering she got 5 shots today, that is a lot I think, poor thing. She did great though she didn't cry much, I think I got another tough girl! Jane weights 13 lbs and 13 oz. and her height was 23 3/4 almost 24. She is in the 90 percentile and is growing big and strong. Doctor says she looks great and seems to be doing well. Just a little update for you blog readers out there!

Sunday Afternoon

It is so hard to get a picture of all three of my kids together, so I decided after church this week I would try to get one of them on the couch in their church clothes, we ended up having to bribe Caleb with a brownie to sit still. in one of the pictures Caleb is signing candy, classic Caleb! I was able to only get one half way decent shot the rest well they speak for themselves.

PJ Movie Night!

Last Friday I invited my friend Erica over with her Kids for dinner and movie at my place. I told Erica to just come dressed in her PJ so when she took the kids home she could just put them straight to bed. It ended up that all the boys wore firemen PJ's and the two girls wore Princess PJ's. We didn't plan it that way it just work out that way, pretty funny. Bella also brought fake hair pieces for them to wear, they looks like little rock stars, it was super cute. We made homemade tacos for dinner, a real hit with the kids and then we had brownies for dessert. Erica and I attempted to watch the movie "Amelia" in the family room while in the next room the kids started watching Pinocchio then it changed to Toy Story. Let just say that the adults watching a movie was such a nice thought in theory , we only got half way through it. We end up giving up on trying to watch it after we had stop the movie 5 times to split up a fight about a toy, change 3 diapers, get 2 drinks for the kids, hand out the second helpings of brownies, etc, etc. It still was tons of fun , I had a blast hanging out talking in our PJ's and watching the Kids. It was nice to have something fun to do on Friday night. My husband works till 11 so it makes it impossible to do anything together on Friday night, so this was a welcomed change. So Movie night didn't go as planned but it was still a great night of conversation, and good food, you can't beat that right.

Smile

If you Chance to meet a frown do not let it stay.
Quickly turn it upside down and smile that frown away.
No one likes a frowny face,
Change it for a smile.
Make the world a better place by smiling all the while!

Jane 2 months Old

Jane is 2 months old now, time seem to go by faster with each child I have. Jane is doing really well, she has her check up next week so I will give you her stats then. I do know that she is at least 12 pounds now because she had a very bad cold and had to be seen at the doctor a couple of weeks ago. She is doing great now. Jane is a sweet little addition to our family. Jane is now responding to her name and is smiling at you when you talk to her. She is holding her head up really well. She is sleeping great at night, I only have to get up twice a night to feed her, but 3 on a bad night and that isn't to bad. She loves to look at you and do that baby talk thing. A little funny fact about Jane is she doesn't really burp all the time, she actually farts it out, the gas she has. I have never had a child do that before. I guess whatever work for her, right, as long as she gets it out. She officially has blue eyes and lots of dark brown hair, she has more hair than any of my other kids had. I'm still waiting to see if she will be blond like Kate or have curly hair like me or just be totally different, either way she is just beautiful. She is a really easy going baby, she loves it when her brother and sister give her kisses and hugs, she smiles at them all the time. She is now starting to grab at some toys, and she enjoys tummy time so much. If she could sleep like that all the time I think she would prefer it. Jane enjoys riding in the car but hates it when the car stops for red lights, she cries. The one thing that does calm her down in that situation is when we play Taylor Swifts song title "Our Song" It just happens to be one of Kate's favorite songs to listen to in the car and we played is over and over when I was pregnant with Jane. I think she recognizes it and it calms her. Kind of neat I think. I just can't seem to say enough about Miss Jane Elizabeth, we sure do love her to pieces here.

Jerry's Birthday

We had a great time Celebrating Jerry's birthday, the kids had a lot of fun getting ready for daddy's party. Kate loved decorating and wrapping the presents and helping bake the cake. Caleb liked picking out the shirts for daddy at the store, and well Jane just slept through most of everything, that is ok that's what she needs to be doing now. Jerry had a great Birthday, I made him a nice Cranberry Chicken dinner and baked a plain yellow Cake, he didn't want any frosting. Wierd I know but that is what he wanted. So the picture looks funny. After we cut into it we made a strawberry short cake sort of cake, minus the strawberries for Jerry because he is allergic. We then opened presents. He got a couple of casual dress shirts, cards, a new white soccer shirt, and his favorite candy. Oh and the most important socks, it's an inside joke between him and I. We also got him with silly string when he got up in the morning, I was trying to get back at him for my wedding day, family will know what I am talking about. Then later that night, we played an old school game of Sardines, when the house got dark. That wasn't planned but, it was so much fun. Kate loved it. She looked all over to find who was hiding but she didn't quite understand that your not suppose to talk when you find them, so you don't give the hiding spot away. Caleb started to look each time but quickly gave up and started driving his little Lighting McQueen car. Jane was sleeping. I like to make sure I include her in the post even though she just is sleeping, to include her in the family news and activities. All in all it was a great Birthday, Jerry had a great day. Happy Birthday Jerry the Big 33! (I hope he doesn't mind that I posted his age. )

Not Wanting to Grow up, and Brotherly Love

Caleb has been really cute around the house lately. He has been trying to do all the baby things he can come up with. He love to sit in Jane's car seat, with a Binky, he still hasn't gotten over the fact that the car seat isn't his anymore. It's kind of sad, he just graduated to the bigger seat right before Jane was born, so it's still fresh in his mind. He loves to climb in the swing and look up at the mirror. He also loves to lay next to Jane on the little baby gym. I feel your Pain Caleb, I don't like getting older either. He really loves to be around Jane and help her put her Binky back in her mouth a little to firmly, sometime. He loves to pat her on the head and Say Jane is his owl like voice, those of you who know him know what voice I am talking about. I just want to post some of the pic of Caleb being silly, and to tell you what a big heart he has for his sister Jane, he is already such a great big brother to her.

Dear John

I was so excited about seeing the upcoming movie based on this book by Nicholas Sparks. I decided to listen to in on my MP3 before the movie comes out. I remember a few years ago when this book came out, I picked it up saying this might be something I would like to read, but as you can see I never did. I am so glad I did. I was apprehensive about it because this after all is a Nicholas Sparks novel, and you know he writes really good stories but they are sad at the same time. It was so worth reading, well listening to. It was such a good story about the power of love and how it changes you, for the better. I won't give anything away if you haven't read it, but it's a good one. A little predicable a points but still good. I also wanted to say I sure do have a clean house now. Listening to my a book on my MP3 really motivates me to clean. I hate house work some days I just don't have the motivations, those late night feeding with baby are killing my energy. So I recommend a good book on CD to jump start your cleaning bug. It's a great way to multi-task, a little me time mixed with a little bit of housework equals a happy mom and a clean house what more could you ask for. Gotta love books on MP3.

Getting back on track

I know that this Chart may not look like much, but it's huge for the Rasmussen Family. We as a family needed to do better about having Family Home Evenings/Scripture Study and Saying all of our prayers. I personally had a nagging feeling lately I just wasn't doing enough teaching the gospel to my children and being consistent with prayers. I need this to change. Don't get me wrong we do say prayers, over food and at bed times, but I wanted to be better at having more family prayers. It's been a struggle for many reasons that are personal and I don't want to discuss in to much detail. The biggest reason is my husbands work schedules, it just throws me off, it's just something we have to work with it's not his fault. He works from 2:00 in the afternoon until 10:00 at night. So as you can see Family Home EVENING is not really happening. We now like to call it Family Home AFTERNOON in our family, Just kidding, we still call in FHE. Also having evening prayers as a family has been tough to remember because Jerry is gone at work. So I was just plain frustrated and annoyed with myself that I could get this basis tasks put into my life more consistently. This is something the Lord has asked us to do, and I felt like I was letting him , myself and my family down by not doing these basic things. I know that we have needed this for a while and I can already feel the difference it has been making. It is very hard to admit these thing I am struggling with but that brings me to my next point. I wanted to blog this so that I could let out into the world of blog readers so that I could hold myself more accountable for the things I am trying to achieve. So by putting myself out there and letting you know my weaknesses maybe it can motivate me to stay on track and to do better. I thought that if I got the kids involved, making it a family goal to do better, it maybe easier to achieve more consistency. The basic ideas is I made a chart for two weeks, and each person has four little squares for the day to fill in with their choice of stickers. I bought a big variety of stickers, character ones and all to get the kids excited. To get all your stickers you have to participate in Morning Family Prayer, F.H.E, (when it's not Monday it's Scripture study), Evening Family Prayer, and Individual Prayers. I do help the Kids with their individual prayers. It's been a hit so far, the kids are super excited to place the stickers on the Chart and even Jerry likes to pick a sticker out and put in on the chart. Their excitement has made this welcome change easier. I can truly say after only a week so far it has made a huge difference in my home. I can feel the spirit more, there is more of a sense of family unity, and there is less contention in the home. This is what we have been needing and missing for awhile now. It's so hard to admit I have struggled to have FHE/Scripture study and more Family Prayers, but maybe putting it out there it will inspire others and let them know their not alone either. I'm very excited about the change happening in my home and the blessings we have been receiving just after a week of this. I have a testimony that prayer does change things, and the Lord has asked us to have FHE for a reason, to help strengthen families against Satan's gasp. I am excited about this new leaf I have turned and hope to continue to strive to so better each day.

One Size Fits ALL

Have you ever heard the phrase one sizes fits all, well in this case it really does. Mammaw gave me this shirt for Christmas. It's one of those shirts that stretches really big, but looks like it fit a baby. Well that gave Jerry and I an idea we thought would be fun to try. We decided to see if it fit everyone in the family. So we took pictures of everyone in the shirt, minus Jerry I couldn't talk him into trying it on, I think the pink threw him off. Well we found out that one size does fit all.
